I first opened my Etsy shop in early 2017 so I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I have learnt a lot along the way and this one trick has helped me make some unexpected sales!
I have 239 listings in my shop right now and out of those, 107 hadn't had any sales. That's nearly half of my shop! Granted, I could probably do with updating my photos and my descriptions and focusing on my SEO for all of those 107 listings but before that I tried this simple trick and it worked for me.
Firstly, before you do anything else, you need to work your way through your listings and make a list (in a Word document or something similar) of all of the items in your shop that haven't had a sale. You'll need to turn 'Stats' on for this part.
Once you've got your list, you're ready to do the little trick. Are you ready for the big secret? Here goes... I rearranged my shop. That's it. It's SO simple to do, let me explain.
So, when you first click onto your Etsy site it should look a little like this...
Look familiar? Good! So the next step is to click on the bright orange button that says 'Edit shop'. It should look pretty much the same except now you should have little pencils next to things. Now scroll down to where it says 'Rearrange items'.
You need to go through your list of unsold items, find them whilst in 'Rearrange items' mode and bring them all to the first page of your shop. You may find that the items that haven't sold are on the last page. I'm guessing that in my case, the customers just got bored of scrolling through the pages and actually never even got to the last few pages, thus those items never sold.
Now you should have all of your unsold items in the first few pages, which customers will automatically have to look at when they click onto your shop. I keep my photos roughly the same for continuity and you can tell my 'old' photos are those in which my prints are framed. When someone buys a print, I simply take a new photo before I post and change the listings main photo on Etsy. So my point here is that if your photos need updating then do that too because it will help. No one wants to look at cluttered, dark, unclear photos.
So now what? After a few days/weeks you should start to see some sales in these items. To help boost my sales, I run a 'Print of the Week' deal on a Friday, and used some of my unsold items in this. To read more about that click here. Once an item sells, go back to 'Rearrange items' and put the sold item to the LAST page in your shop.
The results? So I've only been doing this for a few months and so far, out of 107 unsold items, I have managed to sell 28. That figure doesn't even include how many sales one of those items had, because I have had a few orders for the same item. I tend to get a new order of an unsold item, maybe 2 to 3 times a week now. I still have a while to go but it seems this method is working for me.
Give it a try yourself and see if it works for you! I'd love to hear your experiences, feel free to share this with your business friends and let me know how you get on below.
